Set in a small Texas town, "El Dorado" follows the story of a wealthy landowner, Bart Jason, who seeks to take control of the only water source in the area owned by rancher Josephine MacDonald. When Josephine refuses to sell her land, Jason resorts to hiring a gunfighter named Cole Thornton to intimidate her. Upon arriving, Cole reunites with an old friend, Sheriff J.P. Harrah, but declines to work for Jason. As tensions rise and rumors of Jason's hired gang spread, Cole learns that the sheriff's drinking problem hampers his ability to maintain order. Determined to help his friend, Cole, along with a young sidekick nicknamed Mississippi, decides to return to El Dorado and confront the growing threat.
